Rhinoplasty: why nose surgery is the most complex cosmetic procedure
Before undergoing rhinoplasty, your plastic surgeon will
evaluate your nose. You should talk about what you want to achieve and what you
do not like about your nose. It is very important to keep this clear because we
can do a lot of things when we perform a nose operation, and being very
specific is helpful for the surgeon. Your surgeon will ask you for your general
health and if you have had significant nose problems (operations, injuries,
breathing difficulties, etc.). The examination consists of looking and feeling
the nose inside and outside as well as an assessment of the breath. Your
surgeon will also examine the skin of your nose and evaluate the size and shape
of the rest of your face. Most people are looking for a nose in harmony with
the face. If, for example, the chin is too small, it may give the nose a
seemingly prominent appearance on the face. Then your cosmetic surgeon can
sometimes talk about other additional procedures.
How we perform a rhinoplasty.
To perform a rhinoplasty, we need to access the cartilage and
bones that make up the structural structure of the nose. Cartilage and bones
together form the skeletal support of the nose and rhinoplasty modifies these
structures. Your skin then reappears in the new skeleton. A "closed
rhinoplasty" consists of an incision made inside the nostril and an
"open rhinoplasty" consists of a small incision made in the skin
under the tip of the nose that separates the two nostrils. Some plastic
surgeons practice a more open rhinoplasty because they think they can more
easily predict the end result, but other surgeons practice a more closed
rhinoplasty because the final result is achieved with less swelling and a
shorter recovery period in a procedure that already has a recovery period
notoriously long Period preceding the final results. Whichever method is used,
the surgeon remodels bones and cartilage and expects the skin to be covered
with the new form without over-inflating. If the skin is too thin, minor
imperfections penetrate and if the skin is too thick, the skin will not be
covered with the new shape of the new skeletal structure. Usually, you will
have a cast on your nose for about a week and some packages will be inserted to
prevent nosebleeds for about a day.
